Além de sua aula sobre as origens históricas dos batistas particulares, quero sugerir, também de autoria do Dr. Renihan, Baptism Prior to the Reformation. Ele apresenta, en passant, as três principais teorias sobre a origem dos batistas atuais e procura fazer um apanhado do credobatismo nos primeiros séculos da era cristã e discutir os problemas do landmarkismo e do catabatismo.

Na primeira parte da aula, Dr. Renihan segue de perto o livro Baptism in the Early Church, de Hendrick F. Stander e Johannes P. Louw. Eu indicaria, como complementação, a Part One: A Consideration of the Historical Question do livro Infant Baptism & the Covenant of Grace, de Paul K. Jewett, que faz um belo trabalho regressivo para mostrar as lacunas de uma visão histórica pedobatista e dialoga consistentemente com as obras de Joachim Jeremias e Kurt Aland, mencionadas por Renihan. Há também uma menção à obra de Everett Ferguson (que Renihan confunde por Everett Harrison) que é o mais profundo e vasto estudo até hoje realizado sobre o batismo na Antiguidade e Antiguidade Tardia.

Na segunda parte, Dr. Renihan se fundamenta especialmente na obra de James Edward McGoldrick, Bapstist Successionism: A Crucial Question in Baptist History, obra inigualável no combate ao Landmarkismo.

No todo, é uma aula bastante interessante para quem busca respostas para o problema histórico do credobatismo e do pedobatismo.
